A Relaxing Day at Therme Bucharest

Therme is a giant thermal bath complex, water park, and spa located in Romania just 6 minutes from the Bucharest Airport, making it the perfect spot to relax after a long flight or before you take off again. It’s also convenient for a day trip from Bucharest or even Brasov if you can swing the two hour-plus transit. Since we had an evening flight out of Bucharest and had to check out of our Airbnb in the morning, we decided to spend the day relaxing at the park before flying out, which was absolutely wonderful.

How long to spend there?

We were there for about 7 hours from 10:30AM-5:30PM, which sounds like a lot, but we definitely could have spent more time there and did not have time to do everything. When we were packing up to leave we both said we wished we had more time and would totally go back again. We also did a quick search to see if there were other locations and found one in Manchester, England, and Erding, Germany, with plans to build spas in New York City and Glasgow, Scotland, as well.

What was getting in like?

Since we had to check out of our Airbnb, we brought all of our luggage with us, which wasn’t a problem. They have a storage room for luggage, as well as large lockers for smaller bags at no additional cost.

I also really liked their computerized wristbands, which are used to lock and unlock your locker, access the different sections of the park, and pay for food and drinks. You use the wristbands to check out when you leave, making it nice and convenient. The wristbands made it so easy not having to carry around extra keys or money or worry about leaving valuables unattended. You can just keep all those things safely locked up in your locker and then take care of your bill at the end.

The basic rundown

There are three parts: Galaxy, The Palm, and Elysium. Galaxy is the basic park which is included in every ticket, and The Palm and Elysium are additive. Guests who purchase the basic ticket only have access to Galaxy. Guests who buy The Palm ticket have access to The Palm and Galaxy. And guests who buy the Elysium ticket have access to all three.

Since we had a decent amount of time and wanted to pamper ourselves, we purchased the Elysium tickets to have access to everything. We also recommend getting either The Palm or Elysium package if you don’t want to be around as many little kids, since these areas are age 14 and up.

What did we do?

We spent most of our time at The Palm and Elysium swimming in the thermal pools, relaxed on infrared light beds, and sweating it out in several of the saunas, but we did go to Galaxy for a bit to do some of the slides. And all of the saunas have rotating treatments that you can join in on at no additional cost. Just be sure to check out a map and the treatment schedules so you don’t miss one you’re interested in.

If you see a treatment you’re looking forward to, make sure you show up at least a couple minutes early! Saunas and other places where the treatments take place tend to get filled up!

We did one with a lemongrass salt scrub, another where they used a combination of incense and mint which really opened up our airways, and another where they bathed us in warm air infused with cedar, fir, and pine oil and then gave us shaved ice to cool down. They also had other treatments like clay masks, honey scrubs, and apricot cream.

When we were feeling hungry and thirsty we also enjoyed frappuccinos and cocktails at the pool bars and had lunch on a terrace at Elysium’s Mango Tree Thai Restaurant.

We definitely recommend getting to Therme early in the day if possible. It’s least busy in the morning and the evening. However, people tend to reserve seats and loungers for themselves in the morning, so if you want to stake out a spot, drop your towel at tour location. (We’re pretty sure there’s a rule that you aren’t supposed to do this, but everybody did!)
